Job Description
The Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center is currently accepting applications for the position of Lab Coordinator. The DILAC Lab Coordinator is an Academic Professional who will report directly to the Ivan Allen College Director of IT Services and ultimately to the DILAC Director and the Chair of the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. The Lab Coordinator will work with DILAC academic and IT leadership to oversee lab resources, including equipment, space, GRA staff, and activities. The individual will be a scholar with background in digital humanities as well as strong interest in further developing research and skills in this area. Broadly, this individual will consult, support, and collaborate with faculty, students, and staff involved in digital humanities scholarship. This is a one-year renewable appointment which is dependent on sponsored research and, if renewed, will end June 2019.

Major Responsibilities

  • Maintain broad understanding of commonly used software and tools in digital humanities, both contemporary and historic (examples include: geographic mapping, visualization, archive curation and presentation, text analysis, interactive narrative, virtual/augmented reality, network analysis, physical computing, standard image/audio/video creative tools), and of exemplary projects that can serve as models for the DILAC community.
  • Coordinate all functions of the physical lab space; design and administer systems for the smooth functioning of the space, equipment check-out, class visits, drop-in visits/tours
  • Generally, serve as liaison between the DILAC lab and faculty in Ivan Allen College and other interested Georgia Tech faculty. Promote awareness of the lab and its capabilities among faculty, with an eye towards encouraging engagement with digital humanities through innovative yet realistic, achievable projects
  • Maintain a specific focus on working with the Writing and Communication Program and the Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellows, as this program offers an opportunity to engage large numbers of undergraduate students in digital humanities projects, discussion, and analysis
  • Teach a 1/1 load in the Writing and Communication Program in order to develop new digital methods and projects in the classroom; these projects can serve as a model for others in the program and College
  • Maintain a catalog of DILAC’s digital projects for future consultation and idea generation
  • Organize and conduct workshops on digital research methods, tools, and platforms
  • Maintain professional memberships to organizations that support the digital humanities (ACH, ADHO, SLSA, HASTAC, for example) and maintain an active digital pedagogy and research practice
  • Coordinate a group of 4-5 GRAs who will assist with these responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in related field
  • University teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience with digital humanities research projects and class projects
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills
